The Catering Department

The Catering Department belongs to the Community Planning Administration and is responsible for meals within elderly care, schools, and preschools, where food is cooked from scratch in our kitchens. Every day, we serve approximately 1,900 portions, prepared by dedicated employees who are passionate about good, sustainable, and nutritious food. We know that meals mean much more than just food on a plate. They contribute to health, community, and quality of life, and are an important part of the daily routine for children, students, and the elderly. Therefore, we want to offer meals that make a difference – both for people and for the environment.

The Catering Department operates over a large geographical area, with kitchens bordering both Ludvika and Fagersta. We are now looking for a full-time cook for a permanent position with a focus on schools. We are looking for you who have a genuine interest in cooking and want to help create good meals for many people every day.

Job Responsibilities

As a cook, you work in an operation where quality, service, and joy of food are in focus. You need to be flexible and ready to work at all of our kitchen units. Working hours are primarily during the day, Monday to Friday, but weekend work may occur.

We value a restaurant mindset in the kitchen, where we together create dining experiences with good taste, high quality, and a welcoming attitude.

At our place, we cook food from scratch – this is the core of the assignment. You are responsible for preparing nutritious, varied, and delicious meals that meet our guests' needs. The role also includes writing menus and planning meals in dialogue with colleagues, unit manager, and management. You also work with special diets and consistency-adapted meals, so that every guest receives the right food based on their conditions.

Other responsibilities:

  • Actively work to reduce food waste
  • Perform daily cleaning and follow hygiene routines, including registration in the data system
  • Place orders for goods via the e-portal
  • Contribute to other tasks within the Catering Department, where job content and conditions may change over time

Qualifications

To succeed in the role, you need to have:

  • Relevant education as a cook, or other education/experience that the employer assesses as equivalent
  • Several years of experience working in large-scale kitchens
  • Good computer skills, as digital tools are used in communication, ordering, and planning
  • Knowledge and experience in preparing special diets and consistency-adapted meals
  • Ability to taste and quality-assure the food you prepare
  • Good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing

It is meritorious if you have:

  • Experience from the private sector
  • Knowledge in bakery and cold food preparation
  • Driver's license and access to a car, as work may occur at several of our kitchen units
